Okehampton Argyle 3 – Sidmouth Town 0

Carlsberg SWPL Division 1 East Saturday 22nd November

Sidmouth started brightly and for the opening fifteen minutes were the better side, then the homeside took control with current Willand Rovers winger Luke Alden running the show, the wingers movement and passing was causing the Vikings severe problems and it was no surprise when on the 23rd minute he carved out the opening goal, skipping passed Jake Boyland and then passing inside to Tallen Burns who placed into the bottom corner passed Sidmouth Charlie Ledger. 0-1

Sidmouth found it tough but defended well with debutant Jamie Newbery making some fine tackles and interceptions along with the dependable Wes Tarr.  However the second goal came on the 30th minute when Ledger & centre back Mike Pigeon got in a complete muddle and this allowed the veteran Roger Bonaparte to intercept Pidgeon’s weak back pass and place through Ledgers legs 0-2.  Sidmouth created some decent opportunities with Boyland & Pavey both failing to hit the target when in good goal scoring positions.

Halftime 0-2

Sidmouth altered their formation at half time and this allowed them to try and stage the comeback and only exceptional goal keeping from Harry Geering in the Okehampton goal prevented the visitors from scoring.  Sidmouth dominated the half and on the 60th minute should have scored when Cox had a point blank range header expertly saved. In the 65th minute the gloves man made another wonderful save this time Andy Isaac had a powerful headed effort from six yards out parried to safety.  Sidmouth continued to ask the backline of Okehampton questions and on the 70th minute needed the assistance of Geering again, this time the custodian went to tip Andrew Thomsons rasping drive over the bar only to realise that the ball wasn’t going over the crossbar the keeper turned and saved the ball on the line.  Sidmouth could not do much more than what they were doing, however on the 80th minute the game was killed off when Jason Cordice was sent clear and drilled low past Sidmouths Ledger.
