Sidmouth Town 0 University Of Exeter 5

Carlsberg SWPL Division 1 East Saturday 29th November

Sidmouth welcomed the students of Exeter University to Manstone Lane and the visitors excellent recent run of form looked like it was going to continue as on the 10th minute a rash challenge by Andrew Thomson gave the students the opportunity of a direct free kick from 20 yards out, Peter Beadle duly obliged and placed his shot over the wall passed the diving Charlie Ledger.  0-1

The students continued to dominate the half as the Vikings struggled to deal with the superior fitness and movement from a well drilled side.  On the 35th minute the visitors scored a second, this time Toby Yates finished off an excellent team move. 0-2.  On the 40th minute Sidmouth should have scored Ferenc Bodor intercepted a weak back pass and only a superb save from the students goalkeeper Ben Pryor enabled the visitors to go in at halftime with a clean sheet.

Halftime 0-2

Sidmouth tweaked their formation at halftime and looked better for it as they had the students on the back foot and on the 55th minute Sidmouth’s Josh French should have scored, French put a far post unchallenged header wide of the goal.  This proved to be a critical let off for the visitors as minutes later they were awarded a penalty after Aaron Doble struck a player off the ball and was rightly shown the red card.  The resultant penalty from Josh Higgins rippled the net. 0-3.

On the 70th minute Sidmouth were reduced to nine players a tangle of legs between Wes Tarr and Beadle was deemed to be a professional foul by the referee, the hardworking Sidmouth defender Tarr received his marching orders.    For the remainder of the game it was damage limitation for Sidmouth as the students rain riot.  Beadle scored his second on the 80th minute and Cain Christoforou scored the fifth and final goal on the 87th minute.

A special mention must go to Sidmouth’s starlet Jamie Newbery the 16 year old Devon County youth defender making his second start of the season played a major part along with some poor finishing to ensure that the University didn’t reach double figures!
