East Devon Senior Cup Saturday 12th March 2016
Town’s second string were given a lesson on Saturday in the quarter final of the East Devon Senior Cup. An under strength youthful Viking side didn’t show enough character and were soundly beaten by an experienced Heavitree team, five minutes in and the hosts went 1-0 up after woeful defending soon to be followed by two more and a thrashing was looking likely . The referee seemed to be making his own rules up and the game was over as a contest before half time, his attitude certainly annoyed the Vikings management on several occasions with some seemingly bizarre decisions.
The second half saw a better showing from the away side but how much of that was down to Heavitree taking their foot off the pedal was debatable Divine inspiration was needed and Jesus Christ lead man Matt Colson had seen enough from running the line and entered the fray. He improved the talking, organisation and distribution within minutes and along with Mike Stamp never gave up and was a real handful for the hosts defence. Matt Ogley ran himself into the ground again showing great determination to others around him that need to look within. Damien Armes was another who played when he was clearly ill but got the basics right and had a desire not to give up The Reserves need to show some spirit and some fight in the closing stages of the season as the games will get tougher from now on.
Next up is Colyton away 3pm KO.
