Carlsberg SWPL Div 1 East Saturday 23rd September 17
Sidmouth arrived in North Devon in good spirits having won the previous week against a much fancied Crediton Utd outfit. Sidmouth weathered the early pressure well and by the 20th minute looked the better side, however on the 25th minute disaster struck, Marc Bettis hit a speculative win assisted effort from 40 yards that flew over the head of Viking keeper Josh Mclean who was standing on the edge of his 18 yard box! This deflated Sidmouth and unfortunately they collapsed with Bettis scoring another two goals in quick succession. On the 40th & 43rd minute Ollie Kenneally got in on the act, punishing the shambolic Sidmouth defence.
The Vikings were read the riot act at halftime by the home management and this had the desired effect as the greens dominated the half but could not find the end product to make a game off it. Tyler Wellman, Rob Knight, Jacob Rowe and Nathan Antat all having good chances. A special mention must go to teenager Ollie Binion who never stopped running and was vocally excellent for 90 minutes. The Vikings need to quickly put this game behind them and find the form that beat Crediton as they will need to be at their best to get anything from the University of Exeter on Wednesday under the new Sidmouth Town FC floodlights.
