Macron D&E League Div 1 Tuesday 3rd October 2017
In a lively encounter at Manstone the Vikings made it two wins in a week against the students. Following on from the First team last Wednesday the Seconds gave an impressive performance on a slippery surface, Ben Farrington opened the scoring from the spot after a minute. Sidmouth played some clever football and limited the students to long range efforts that Jake Sellick dealt with comfortably, Aidy Parr pounced on a defensive error to lob the helpless keeper and double the lead.
Uni started the second half on fire and tore into the Vikings, It was only a matter of time that a goal would be conceded and ten minutes in it was 2-1. Giving the ball away in their own half was again to prove costly as the students punished any mistake and levelled 2-2, to their credit Town regrouped and slowly began to regain their grip on the game, Scott Hughes then flicked in the third shortly followed by Aidy Parr’s stunning volley from 40 yards out that lobbed the keeper again, there was still time for the students to score a screamer to end the scoring on an entertaining night.
The players gave all they had and deserved to get the three points, hopefully we can build on this and show the same determination in every game. Something special about evening games under lights and this had a bit of everything, nice to get off the mark in the league finally.
Next up is an away trip to North Devon in the Devon Senior Cup at Pilton 2 pm KO.
