Carlsberg SWPL Div 1 East Saturday 9th December 2017
The surface was quite heavy at Manstone, which went both teams made a slow start. Neither team creating too much until on the 20th minute Devon U18 skipper Ollie Jarret was left unmarked at the far post, with just Rowan Symonds in goal to beat but Jarret placed his shot wide. Just before half time Tom Perryman whipped a cross into the Sidmouth box that found Joe Mulhall unmarked, Mulhall flicked the ball onto another unmarked player Joe Dixon, who applied the tap in. Sidmouth then applied some pressure looking to level the scores and nearly did so when a Connor Swingler looping header was tipped over the bar by Symonds in the Honiton goal.
Honiton started the 2nd half well and it was not long before Perryman supplied another good cross into the box that Mulhall flicked into the Sidmouth goal to make it 2-0 to the visitors. Shortly afterwards Sidmouth goal keeper Dan Stapleton rushed a clearance that found the feet of Blake Freemantle, who calmly lobbed the ball into an empty net from 30 yards to make it 3-0. The Vikings reacted and applied some heavy pressure which eventually resulted in a goal on the 65th minute from Shaun Densham. Moments later Riki Pitter headed straight at Symonds when well placed. To rub salt into the wound former Vikings favourite Andy Isaac came off the bench to add to Honiton’s goal tally and scored their fourth with some tapping in after a neat piece of play. However the goal of the day was saved until last when Devon Under 18 player Ashley Mitchell picked up the ball deep in the Sidmouth half and then produced an amazing run, beating four defenders, before firing low into the bottom corner.
