Macron D&E League Div 8 Saturday 10th February 2018
Sidmouth 4ths got back to winning ways on Saturday with a rollercoaster 6-5 win at home to Sanford in a game that was good for the neutral but definitely not good for the health of Sidmouth’s management team.
The young Sidmouth team bolstered with some experienced players from within the club started slowly and really made hard work of the first twenty minutes, but from then until the end of the first half they put Sandford to the sword and had a five nil lead with goals from Matthew Rasmussen on his return to the club jack miller, Ollie Turton (2) and Louis Adey getting in on the scoring.
At halftime the message was clear, no consolation goals stay on top and keep scoring and don’t give the opposition a chance.
In the first five minutes of the restart Sandford scored to make it five-one but with some good work from midfield Ollie Jarrett restored the five goal lead and scored what turned out to be the winner to boost the young Sidmouth team into action. Unfortunately for the home side it was Sanford who found there rhythm on a deteriorating surface which the Vikings struggled to cope with. After a mad last twenty minutes with the away side scoring four more the Sidmouth players were a relieved bunch to hear the final whistle with Sanford on the attack again and looking for a sixth.
All in all, a deserved win for the young Vikings and with the news of rivals Thorverton being beaten at home the home side still sit 2nd in the league and very much on target for a good finish.
