The Vikings second string got back to winning ways with a hard-earned victory in their first trip to Perry Street. A neat outfit that tried to play football the correct way it was a good contest that could have gone either way right until the final whistle. Bolstered by the return of regular starters the Vikings took the lead when Ben Goodier whipped in a free kick and it seemed to evade everyone and nestled in the far corner of the hosts goal. Skipper Damien Armes then did an impression of Spurs Harry Kane by trying to claim the goal, insisting it brushed his hair!! Town pressed but couldn’t add to their tally as Perry Street kept the ball on the ground and tried to pick their way through a well marshalled Viking defence with Matt Colson and Ben Miller prominent.
The second half saw the hosts draw level within minutes of the restart. A ball played through out wide unlocked the visiting defence and the injured Adam Bartlett was helpless as he was left one on one with the hosts winger. Town had to up their game as Perry Street were now on top. From a break in their own box Mark Burdus flicked a header to Ferenc Bodor and he volleyed in from twenty yards out. To their credit the hosts came back at Town and it was clear the scoring hadn’t finished. From a free kick outside the penalty area Perry Street levelled the tie with fifteen minutes left. Could this young Vikings side pick themselves up as again Perry Street applied the pressure? Bartlett made a great save before Tom Moore rifled in the winning goal from outside the box.
A really impressive display again from these young lads. It made a massive difference to the side with the return of a few regulars. The last two games have been tough to take for the players as they are left wondering what has been happening regarding team selection. Perry Street were a decent side and we will have to play well on Wednesday night when we host the return fixture 7-30 ko.
