Sidmouth Town 1 – Honiton Town 0

Carlsberg SWPL Div 1 East Wednesday 24th October 2018

The Vikings newly installed managerial team of Danny Burwood and Kevin Tooze got off to a winning start in their first league game in charge thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over local rivals Honiton Town in a real East Devon “derby”, with a good crowd of 153 present to watch on.

After a goalless first half the all-important goal came just eight minutes into the second half as a free kick from outside the box was scored by the experienced Danny Clay.

Both sides hot the woodwork late on as first Honiton came close the levelling up when a shot from wide out on the touchline clipped the far post and later Sidmouth came close to doubling the lead when a close-range header hit the top of the crossbar.
