Devon Premier Cup Saturday 3rd November 2018
Sidmouth travelled to Holesworthy on the back of a 6 – 1 defeat away to Stoke Gabriel the previous week hoping for a reversal of their fortunes and it seemed that was what was going to happen, Town were well in command of the first half and were creating chance upon chance of clear goal scoring opportunities but had to wait until the 30th minute for their 1st goal which Ollie Jarrett headed home from a corner, Town continued to dominate but were unable to increase the lead and went in at half time 1 goal to the good.
The second half saw Holesworthy come into the game a little more but Town were looking like they were going to see the game out at 1 – 0 until a free kick was conceded shortly before what would have been the full time whistle from which the home side scored to take the game into extra time.
The first period of extra time saw the home side take the lead only for Rob Knight to equalise after the Holesworthy keeper made an error with his kick and passed the ball to Rob who promptly took advantage. The second period of extra time and the home side took a 4 – 2 lead with 2 quick goals, Ash Small made it 4 – 3 after Town were awarded a penalty at the death.
All in all, a very disappointing result for the visitors who given the chances created in the 1st half should have been 5 or 6 up and put the game to bed.
Sidmouth Starting Eleven: Jake Wreford, Ollie Jarrett, Ben Clay, Chris Duchenski ( c ), Matt Salter, Harry Taylor, Ferenc Bodor, Rob Knight, Ash Small, Danny Burwood, Will Jenkins, Used Sub: Louis Spalding.
On a brighter note Town’s other teams all recorded successes, the 2nds won 5 -1 away to Tedburn St Mary in the Devon Senior Cup, the 3rds Won 3 – 1 AET and penalties away to South Devon side Upton Athletic in the Devon Intermediate Cup and the 4th team won 3 – 2 at Manstone Lane in league action v local rivals Otterton.
