Sidmouth Town 2 – Crediton Utd 1

Carlsberg SWPL Div 1 East Saturday 23rd March 2019

After a satisfying win at Liverton last week, we were at home against an in form Crediton  who have won their last 5 games! Going into the game we were a little light missing Matt Salter who was on Devon U18 duties and also without our big target man Martyn Hancock, so it was going to be a tough afternoon!! We started the game brightly and worked hard from the start not allowing our opponents to settle into the game. The first half saw neither keeper really having a lot to do, but on the stroke of half-time Ferenc Bodor went on one of his quick runs down the left eventually running into a Crediton keeper who sweeps their back four really well and managed to clear the danger, after what was a final poor touch from our foreign favourite!!

A Calm, encouraging and positive half time talk saw us go 1-0 up after about 3 minutes of the restart with Ollie Jarrett over lapping fez down the left to meet a wonderful cross from Ethan slater!!! A Sidmouth side playing with confidence and desire over the past few weeks managed the game well throughout the rest of the half, limiting Crediton and Kenny Ord to few chances!! For the final 20 mins we brought on Danny clay to settle matters down and new signing Elliot Keirle, the latter scoring a very important goal on his debut with minutes remaining 2-0. The last few minutes saw us give away too many free kicks, and from one of those Crediton grabbed a consolation goal with the last kick of the game! A massive win in our attempt to catch Crediton and St Martins who we entertain next week and a much needed 3pts!!
