Sidmouth Town 4 – Liverton FC 1

Carlsberg SWPL Div1 East Wednesday 18th October 2017

Both teams went toe to toe in an entertaining 1st half.  It took Sidmouth 25 minutes to settle down as they knew that they needed to get maximum points in order to move up 3 places in the league.  Both sides had goal scoring opportunities, for Sidmouth Rob Knight and Ashley Small were causing the visitors problems with their direct running and chasing lost causes.  At the other end Sidmouth needed goal keeper Robbie Powell to be at his best diving at full stretch to his right tipping a headed effort over the bar that was destined for the top corner. Liverton went on to have a couple of half chances but found Powell in sparkling form.  On the 30th minute the Vikings deservedly opened the scoring with Small beating the Livvy keeper at his near post 1-0.  Five minutes later Knight powerfully barged his way through on goal and blasted past the stranded blues goal keeper to give Sidmouth a 2-0 halftime lead.

Half Time 2-0

Sidmouth knew that the visitors would come on strong and had a game plan to manage the 1st fifteen minutes of the game effectively, of which they did very well with Dan Clay using his years of experience in organising the midfield proficiently.  On the 60th minute Sidmouth scored a 3rd goal, the talented Dan Evans riffled home a left foot shot that flew past the Liverton goal keeper a great strike from a player that is now realising his potential and ability.  Evans’s strike effectively ended the contest as clearly the third goal deflated the lively visitors who by now were playing for pride.  On the 75th minute Small put the icing on the cake with his 2nd goal of the night again chasing a lost cause and then finishing with real venom.  4-0.  On the 78th minute the visitors pulled a goal back after some hesitant Viking defending.

Fulltime 4-1
