Sidmouth Town 3 – Teignmouth 1

Carlsberg SWPL Div 1 East Saturday 17th November 2018

With the return of some of our more seasoned players Town bounced back to winning ways with a 3 – 1 success at home to Teignmouth who are languishing 4th from bottom of the table.

The opening period of the first half was a fairly even affair with perhaps the away side slightly shading things, and it was Teignmouth who took the lead with a decent strike which gave Machin in the home goal no chance, Ferenc Bodor was causing the away side problems down the left hand side with his pace and it was indeed Fez who got the equaliser beating his defender and cutting in from the left hand side to score a fine individual goal, Skipper Chris Duchenski then had a tap in from a Danny Clay corner to give Town the lead just before the half time whistle.

The second half was a much more one-sided affair with Dan Machin having little to do in the home goal, Town kept pressing for the 3rd goal and it took a spectacular free kick from Danny Clay to get it, he lined up from about 35 yards out and struck the ball which flew into the top right corner giving the away keeper no chance.

All in all, a deserved win for the home side who climb a place to 8th in the table, above Ilfracombe in 9th but only on goal difference, the mid table is an extremely tight affair with only 5 points separating 7 Clubs.

Next Saturday the 24th sees Town with no game but we have a fixture away to premier outfit Cullompton on Tuesday 27th November with a 7:30 KO in the last 16 of the WPC Cup, followed by the long trip to Appledore on Saturday 1st December 2:15 KO.

Sidmouth Starting Eleven: Dan Machin, Ben Clay, Matt Salter, Chris Duchenski ( C ) Ollie Jarrett, Danny Clay, Rob Knight, Ferenc Bodor, Ash Small Harry Taylor, Will Jenkins.
Used Subs: Jack Hatswell, Louis Spalding.
